Affiliate Marketing is a great way to make money online. Whether it be a little of extra cash on the side, or a full time income, it’s possible if you follow the right steps and put in the time and effort.
There are a few things that I wish someone had told me when I was first getting into the affiliate marketing world, so I decided to take the time to give you guys…
5 Tips to Succeed at Affiliate Marketing
1)Have the right mindset
In my opinion, having the right mindset is the number one thing that you need in order to succeed at affiliate marketing.
What do I mean by this?
Well, one of the questions that I get all of the time is “how long will it take me to make a living wage online” or something along those lines.
Which is a completely understandable question, I even asked it when I was just getting ready to take my first steps into the internet marketing world.
Of course everyone wants to bring in thousands of dollars a month in a short amount of time, but that’s not really how it works. You have to put in the time and effort in order to reap the benefits.
At first I was so unmotivated whenever I thought about having to work an hour or two a night, for at least a few months before I would see any kind of money at all.
But once I got into the right mindset, it became so much easier.
Once I got it into my mind that some day I would be able to work whenever I wanted, wherever I wanted, and spend as much time as I wanted with my family. Suddenly, it didn’t matter how long it would take, because I knew that I was willing to do whatever it takes, for however long it takes to achieve that goal.
Of course I wanted it to come as fast as possible, but I stayed in the mindset that It didn’t matter when it happened, as long as it did happen.
Some people start earning a full time income within 4-6 months, and some people take a year or longer. Of course that depends on how much work you are willing to put in.
I promise you that you will succeed as long as you put in the work, and get the proper training.
2)Get the Proper Training
I’m sure that it’s possible to make money through affiliate marketing without getting the proper training, but it’s going to be a lot easier, and probably happen a lot faster if you do.
I spent a lot of time and effort trying to make money online on my own, and I ended up just wasting a bunch of time, and some money on various scams and schemes. I made a few dollars here and there, but nothing that was even remotely notable.
It wasn’t until I found and signed up at Wealthy Affiliate that I actually started making good money online.
Without the proper training, it’s easy to waste a bunch of time doing a ton of unnecessary things. The proper training will help you focus on the important things, and cut out the things that don’t really matter at all.
The two affiliate marketing training programs that I recommend the most are Wealthy Affiliate, and Niche Blitzkrieg.
Both of the programs will completely walk you step-by-step through picking your niche, setting up a website, getting people to the website, and optimizing it to get those people to make purchases and earn you money.
Getting the proper training will help you stay on track, and get you to the money making part faster.
3)Set Goals
It’s easy to get off track, lose sight of the end game, and even give up if you don’t have a goal in place to push forward and reach for.
The goal that you set can be related to money, to the amount of time you want to spend on your website, or just about anything that you want to achieve.
Personally, I set a few short term goals that I strive to achieve, and a long term goal that the short term goals assist in achieving.
For Example, when I first started out, I set a goal to work at least 1 hour a night on my website, write 3 posts a week, and make my first sale within the first 2 months.
I didn’t achieve any of those goals; there were several nights when I was just to tired from my day job to put in an extra hour, there were a couple weeks when I would only write one or two posts, and I didn’t make my first sale until my third month.
But I wasn’t discouraged, I just pushed harder to achieve my short term goals, and set a new long term goal.
Just having defined goals to work toward helped me work more often, and to work harder because I didn’t want to feel disappointed in myself for not achieving them.
Creating achievable yet challenging goals is the key to staying on track and making affiliate marketing a habit.
4)Make it a Habit
Affiliate marketing isn’t something that you can just work on here and there, or whenever you feel like it. You have to consistently work at it and put in the time and effort on a regular basis.
A good way to make a habit out of working at it is to create some type of schedule that you do your best to stick to.
The schedule I created was that I would work every night for and hour.
Mondays: I would come up with a post idea, write an outline, and start writing it.
Tuesdays: Finish the post, and finish various tasks that I had to do.
Wednesdays: Come up with a post idea, write an outline, and start writing it.
Thursdays: Finish the post , and finish various tasks I had to do.
Fridays: Come up with a post idea, write an outline, and start writing.
Saturdays: Finish the post, and do various tasks.
Sundays: Do various tasks.
Of course I didn’t always stick to it, sometimes I would finish an entire post on Monday and take Tuesday off. Or I would take Monday off and do the entire post on Tuesday.
Heck, sometimes I would take both Monday and Tuesday off and not write a post at all. But just having the schedule set helped me make a habit of working on my website, and to consistently put out content.
Your schedule doesn’t have to look anything like mine, make it to fit your regular schedule, and do your best to stick to it as much as possible.
Just knowing what you are going to do will help you save you time from having to figure it out every night, and it will help you get into the habit of working which will make it less likely that you will give up.
5)Don’t give up
Not giving up ties in closely to the first tip, which was having the right mindset. You have to have the mindset that you are not going to give up until you are working fulltime as an affiliate marketer.
In order to succeed in affiliate marketing, you have to be willing to just keep moving forward no matter what happens. There are going to be times when you just want to give up and stop working at it because you feel like you aren’t making any progress.
There are going to be set backs that make you feel like you wasted a bunch of time, and there are going to be those days when you wonder if anything is going to come from all of your hard work, but I promise you that it will if you just don’t give up.
The people that succeed at affiliate marketing are the ones who were willing to keep going when everyone else would have given up. They are the people who wanted it so badly that they were willing to do whatever it takes to make a living online.
They are the people who got in the right mindset, got the proper training, set goals, made it a habit, and never gave up. Those are the people who succeed at affiliate marketing.
Conclusion
In my opinion, these are the 5 most important things that you need to do in order to succeed at affiliate marketing.
- Have the right mindset
- Get the proper training
- Set goals
- Make it a habit
- Don’t give up
If you can do those 5 things, I’m certain that you will succeed at becoming a fulltime affiliate marketer.
